Class: “Tiny Diner Garden Tour”

Description: What will the TD Gardens grow this year? Come take a tour see what we have planted for our pollinators and kitchen this season.

Instructor Bio: Koby Jeschkeit-Hagen, TD Garden and Market Adviser, designed and installed the TD Gardens since the beginning. Class: “Buying Healthy, Safe Plants: 101”

Back by popular demand! Are the plants you buy from stores safe for you, your family and garden? Are they healthy plants? Some plants may have harmful chemicals like herbicides and insecticides, or pest infestations. Come learn the basics to purchase healthy and safe plants. TINY snacks provided.

Instructor Bios: Andrea Eger, TD Permaculture Education Coordinator, and Koby Jeschkeit-Hagen, Garden and Market Adviser, team up to provide an energetic hour of plant talk. With experience in greenhouse growing, urban and rural farm management, and transplant and seed sourcing, they bring real-world tips and tons of energy. Get ready. Class: Hiawatha Food Forest Happy Hour

Description: Can you imagine walking into a park and finding a orchard heavy with fruit free for that talking? This is exactly what Ryan S. and others imagine could happen to a small section of the Hiawatha Golf Course. Please join us to hear about the vision, process, and challenges of this project. Come check out the pollinator hotel with Tiny Diner gardeners. We’ll be talking about what kinds of bugs stay in the hotel and the things we do to attract our insect friends. This is a kid-friendly event.

 

Class: Free fruit in the City? Foraging 101

Date: Thursday June 15th

Time: 5:30-7:00

Ever walked by a tree in Minneapolis loaded with fruit and wonder what happens to it? Join us for an informative happy hour with Jeff Zielter, the owner of Urban Forage the first winery in Minneapolis. He’ll tell us how he finds free fruit in the city and turns it into delicious alcoholic beverages. This is the next level of sustainable food! Jeff is full of great information and advice. Need another reason to join us? Tiny Diner bartenders have made a special drink using Jeff’s cider just for the occasion. Tiny snacks provided. Bio: Jeff Zietler is the founder and owner of Urban Forage Winery and Cider House which uses Minneapolis fruit to make a variety of delicious ciders and wines. Jeff started brewing in his college dorm and has never looked back. He has also worked as a landscape architect and has been a life-long organic gardener.

 

Class: Fungi Alchemy: Growing Mushrooms Indoors

Date: Saturday, June 24th

Time: 2:00-3:00

Join us for an intro to growing edible & medicinal mushrooms indoors using natural and common ‘waste’ materials like straw, sawdust, coffee grounds, & more. We’ll focus on several species of fungi like Oysters, Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Wine Caps, & more. You will leave with your own Mushroom kit to grow at home and a comprehensive handout. $20 early bird sign up here. $30 dollars at the door. Minimum of 3 students.
